One of Just 13 Farms NationWide
In May of 2023, Centerfield officially became one of just 13 farms in the United States to achieve Whole Foods Market's highest flock welfare designation: "Outdoor Living". These "animal welfare standards for laying hens were developed after
hundreds of farm visits and consultations with farmers, pullet growers, poultry geneticists, and animal welfare scientists." With almost 700 farms audited, Centerfield is in the top 2% of Whole Foods Market egg suppliers.

"For our Outdoor Living label, hens must live outdoors 12 months a year with mobile units or small permanent houses for laying eggs, roosting at night and shelter from storms. Throughout the year, there must be at least 75% rooted vegetative cover on grassland or ample rangeland areas to provide continual supply of bugs, seeds, edible plants and other attractions for the hens throughout the year. Cover and shade must accommodate 100% of the birds. Beak trimming is prohibited."
Whole Food Market's extensive audit included a rigorous analysis of Centerfield's operations, including feed records and ingredients, detailed coop and outdoor access specifications, light records, flock health records, feather, bone, and beak conditions, egg standards, temperature profiles, nest cleanliness standards, water and air quality assessments, flock densities, rangeland and grassland quality, etc.
We are proud to have some of the happiest and healthiest hens in the country!
